Colorado on The Couch

As part of my normal travel segment, I spoke about Colorado on The Couch.

The Couch is a weekly entertainment and variety show on Australia’s Foxtel network. I have presenting travel on the show for a number of years, so I decided to talk about Denver, Colorado.

I visited Denver as part of my rail journey across the U.S.A. from San Francisco to New York. What a fabulous way to see America! You traverse such stunning countryside. The great thing about train travel is that you have large, comfortable seats, room to move around, great panoramic carriages and the food is not only very good but reasonably cheap also.

Denver is a fabulous city. My introduction to it was surreal. As we were descending from the Rocky Mountains it was a perfectly clear night and a blood-red moon illuminated Denver as we approached.

Hence my decision to talk about Colorado on The Couch with emphasis on Denver.

My time in Denver was short but jam-packed. It is a very friendly city and easy to get around, particularly if you decide to walk. The city boasts some magnificent buildings and public spaces. Larimer Square was a real eye-opener and a joy to wander around. This area is a mixture of funky boutiques, modern restaurants and very traditional businesses. It was terrific to wander into shops, just to look. However, I love hats and in one shop I just had to purchase the hat that I wear in the video.  I could have bought heaps more, but I only have one head.

Catching the free bus that trundles up 16th street was a lot of fun. You can alight at every intersection, which is a bonus, but I stayed on until we reached the final stop near the Capitol Building.

Here there are many modern buildings, parks, public art and, of course, the magnificent public buildings.

Denver also has a variety of pub breweries, which offer great food and drink. I sampled a couple and was not let down. The Denver Art Museum is well worth a visit as it is choc-filled with fabulous artworks, particularly those celebrating Colorado’s western past and the art of the native American Indians.

I highly recommend a visit to Denver if you visit the U.S.A.

Look at this video to just a sample of the delights that Denver holds for you. Colorado and Denver are simply spectacular places.
